A Study of Ruth.

Next to Esther, Ruth is probably my favorite woman of the bible. Where Esther was strong and stood up for what was right. Ruth, humbled herself and submitted. Two totally different personalities, two beautiful examples for women today.

Right now, I want to talk about Ruth, a study of Ruth. Since Ruth has always interested me, when I was visiting a favorite blog, I noticed that this blogger had written a study of Ruth. With my kindle app on my droid, e-books are my preferred way of reading. So, seeing that I could buy the e-book for only $2.99, I thought “why not?” Sooo glad I did!

From the minute I opened the book, err, loaded on my kindle, I realized this was no light study.
This was the whole thing.  Now, I wasn’t unfamiliar with the book of Ruth. However, this study brought out so many things I had never really considered.
Like the parallel of Naomi leaving Moab. She and her family had turned their backs to the promised land when things got hard, and went to Moab. How many times do we turn our back’s on God’s promises and look elsewhere for what we need? At the end of here rope, so to speak, Naomi says she’s had it, she’s lost everything, so she is returning to the land of her birth.
Or Orpha and Ruth. They had a big decision to make. Like we do when we stand on the edge, do we choose to stay where we know what will happen, or do we jump and trust God to lead us?
What about Boaz, the kinsman-redeemer? And the parallel to our kinsman-redeemer Christ?
Not only does this study of Ruth, show all these wonderful parallels, but it is obvious the author Donna did a lot of studying into the times when this story took place.
The act of uncovering Boaz’s feet and sleeping there, was not an act of seduction as I thought. But an act of submission and seeking protection. An act very common of that day.
I am not writing this review because I was given a free book. No, I bought this book for me and after reading it; I knew I had to share it.
In case you are interested. Donna blogs at Tuesdays with Jesus and you can buy her book   Lessons From Ruthon Amazon.

  3. I love studying the women in the Bible. In my second semester in college I took the class “Women of the Bible” and it was great! What really spoke to me from your post was the sentence “Like we do when we stand on the edge, do we choose to stay where we know what will happen, or do we jump and trust God to lead us?” Right now my boyfriend (and I) are at place where is jumping and if God does not catch him…he will fall hard.

Can’t wait to see what the Lord will do next!

  4. Amen. I’m visiting from the Thoughtful Thursday blog hop, and wanted to thank you for this study of Ruth. I’ve also been thinking and praying a good deal lately about submission, and trusting God to lead us when we cannot see our way.
    This was a blessing-thank you.
    Peace and good

    • Thanks Chelle, In this day and age when submission is considered old fashioned, the story of Ruth just completely inspires me!

  5. Ruth’s lesson for me is her seeming simplicity. She is no drama queen. She simply sees her duty and does it, lead by a heart for God and His people. Sure wish I could see it all as clearly.

  6. I just saw this link on FB, I can’t wait to check this out.
