Taking Pride in His Accomplishments MM#5 Link-up

Do we as wives, take pride in his accomplishments?  I know that nothing pleases hubby more than to make a sudden detour while we are driving, just so he can show my the latest job he has finished.Of, course, nothing frustrates me more than realizing this little tangent of his is going to make us late, once again. :)

Our men take pride in what they accomplish. This is how (to themselves at least) they prove that they have worth.

As wives, we are called to support our men. One way to show our support is to also take pride in their accomplishments. Maybe your man is amazing on computers, appreciate the fact that you will never be in my position, knowing something is wrong, but don’t know how to fix it. Maybe he is an architect and designs beautiful structures.  Or maybe he is like my man, and works with his hands fixing just about anything {but not the computer ;) }

So today, I want to challenge you wives. What does your man excel at? Make a list, take some photos if you can, come back and link up.

I want to share, one the first things that hubby did for me right after we got married.  My living-room floor was half covered in canning jars. We didn’t have much cupboard space and lots of jars.  So he started taking measurements out in the garage. Making square shelves would’ve been easy enough but the uniqueness of the only wall we could put shelves on, is the fact that it was angled.  One end was nearly two feet deep, and the other was barely a foot.

Per as usual, hubby is photo-bombing! Do you think I am pleased? :)   He also put a closet on the end so he would have a place to hang his work coats.

Once, we moved, we had no need for the angled shelves. So we took them apart and reused a lot of the wood to make the lovely shelves below.

But of course, with a new house, came new problems. A big one was the fact that we no longer had a place for our pet supplies.  The back of our laundry-room held the water heater and one lonesome shelf over it. (as indicated by the yellow markings below)  So, out comes his trusty tape, pencil and paper. I used red arrows to indicate what he added. Amazing, right? :)

By trade hubby is a landscaper.  So, of course I have to showcase a few of things he has done around here to prettify our little home. The outside that is. :)

Here is a sweet little wall he made for our front flower bed.

Outback, we have a lovely patio. Designed and installed by dear hubby.  The old mutt had to be in the photo. :)

And the rose trellis he built for my roses, on the other end of the patio.

One of the most amazing things about all of this. We didn’t have to pay much for anything. He is a bit of a pack rat so we had most of the supplies, and what we didn’t have he was able to get for cheap, or nothing. Like the pavers, they were tear-outs from an old job. He cleaned them up and picked out the best.

I love all the wonderful things he does around here! Last week I shared the little things he does, but this week is all about the BIG things. So make your own taking pride in his accomplishments list, and share them here. And don’t forget, share that list with your hubby, he needs to hear more than “can you do this” “bring me that” and “I need some help” ;)

Don’t forget to pop over to Kelly’s blog to see the features.

  4. Love the post Kendra! It’s awesome the things your husband has done. I was going to do a post like this one but then realized I don’t have any pictures and since we’ve moved, there isn’t really anything that he’s done so I was going to chat about what he does at work in the medical machining field. Maybe next week.

Thanks for sharing! Love his work and loved that you shared!

  6. This is such a wonderful post. It’s so great to be reminded to appreciate and praise the hubbs for being so awesome!

P.S. Is there any way to follow your blog via GFC?? I don’t see it!!

    • Because I don’t have a blogger blog you can’t follow via gfc. However you can subscribe via rss using the google reader. Then it should
show up with all the blogs you follow via gfc.

  7. I agree! It’s good to affirm our husbands. My hubby has been building a wall outside and it looks lovely… he works so hard and likes to be affirmed. I believe when we show our appreciation of our husband’s efforts it encourages them to continue to work hard.

  8. Aww, it’s so good to notice your husband’s skills and accomplishments and praise him in front of others. And your man is pretty skilled with tools, it looks like. For me, my husband just started grad school a few months ago, and I’m so proud of him for that, and for keeping on top of his schoolwork while working full time. He’s not a huge fan of school, but it’s best for our family that he gets an education, and I’m so proud of him for doing it!

    • That’s awesome! And what a commitment he is showing to you and the family, by taking on things he does really enjoy so he can provide for you!

  9. Great advice! The longer you are married the more it seems easy to forget to keep complementing and making a big deal over all the stuff our hubbys do! Great reminder to apprecite them – and let them know it!

  10. This was a beautiful post and what a blessing your husband is! It is so wonderful me to hear a young woman praising her husband instead of complaining about him – something that has become too commonplace in our society.

My husband is a carpenter/homebuilder/former farmer – and built my house! Unfortunately we have it on the market for sale (I tell him we need to put it on wheels and roll it down the highway!) but for the last 7 years I have so enjoyed it. We plan to remodel an older home when we get settled. Anyway, It is a gorgeous home. I also helped out – sanding and staining all the wood work.

Like you, we were also blessed with finding things free or cheap – Like all the stone for our fireplaces. When I wanted bookshelves in the den all he said was, “where do you want them?” – I stained those as well :) You are so right when you say men take pride in what they do and want to be appreciated – Don’t we all? For 28 years I have so treasured my husband – God’s gift to me as a life partner. I thank the Lord for my husband daily.

Bless you girl for your blog and posts – You bless many. Have a wonderful day!
