Blessings In Disguise
It was so annoying, that old leaky seal on the freezer. No matter how hard one tried, it just wouldn’t seal all of the way. The result was that the entire freezer was constantly coated in ice.
The big belly made it impossible to clean out the offending thing so the ice just kept getting worse. Every time you wanted get something out of the old thing you felt like you needed a pick and shovel just to uncover what you needed.
Then the baby came. With the baby, came gifts of food from loving friends and family. And the freezer was filled, not only with that awful ice but now with food for the busy weeks ahead.
One of these day…. that thing is going to be tossed into the dump, and a new freezer that wouldn’t leak and let the ice build up would take its place.
Then the storm came, and the power went out. When the power goes out, your freezers shut off. When the freezer shut off, food goes bad.
The power was off for several days and people began having to dump food. The freezers had warmed to a point that food began to spoil.
But the awful, junk heap of a freezer that had so much ice in it? It was still keeping things cold. That ice which had been such a nuisance and trial for so many months, had became a blessing. While other freezers that sealed nicely and didn’t have huge build ups of ice couldn’t compete against the 90+ degree weather, the old iced up freezer nicely preserved what it held.
That old thing that had become such a trial, was a blessing in disguise.
When I heard that story, I got goose bumps. If that family would’ve had the new freezer that they wanted, all the food that was brought at the birth of their baby would’ve been ruined.
And it got me to thinking, how many times do I fuss and complain? I want things to be this way, or that way, and when they don’t work out, I become upset. What if I could just sit back, and wait for God ,to turn my troubles and trials into blessings in disguise?
Oh! Oh! I thought you had the baby! 🙂
Here’s a memory verse for you: (and me)
Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Amazing and thought-provoking story… God works all things to good. Thanks for sharing!
That is a wonderful story and a wonderful lesson! We should always be careful of our complaints…ahhh…God is Good!
Amen to that!
Well, I have to say, this one really got me thinking…in a good way…
God has been teaching me so much in this area these days!
Patience with God, something we all need. He said He causes all things to work together for our own good, we need to just trust. This story is a great lesson, thanks for sharing Kay!
Have a super blessed week ahead Kay!

Kendra…what a fabulous story to remind us to trust the Lord in all things…even if it isn’t going the way we want it to. Thank you for sharing at WJIM this week. Blessings.
Thanks dear 🙂
Oh, honey!!! You have NO idea how much this post spoke to me! With all the stuff that’s been going on in the past month with this house I’ve been so frustrated and upset and keep trying to keep my head up and to believe in God’s plan for us and believe that we are doing the right thing and i just feel like we are under attack. And i LOVE this song but I heard it in a new light this morning. You are such a blessing to me my friend. I love you girl!!!
Thank you for the reminder! Too often, we can’t see past our noses… We have to trust that God sees our “big picture”!
