I should’ve been born in Italy, Italian foods are a huge favorite of mine. I serve Italian at least once a week, so when I say I have the best chunkalicious pasta sauce recipe to share with you, it’s time to start drooling!
No smooth, mostly tomato flavored sauce for us. This bold, hearty, and chunky pasta sauce is an Italian party in your mouth!
Chunkalicious Pasta Sauce Recipe
You start out with veggies that are chopped and sauteed. Pour tomatoes and tomato sauce over the veggies, add herbs and simmer. While the amazing aroma of simmering sauce is filling your home, assemble the rest of your meal.
- 1 tbs. olive oil
- ½ medium onion
- ½ large bell pepper
- 3-5 five button mushrooms
- 2 teas. minced garlic (4 cloves)
- 1 tbs flour
- 30 oz tomato sauce
- Medium diced tomato
- 1 tbs. raw cane sugar
- ½ teas. ground thyme
- ½ teas. ground rosemary
- 1 teas. oregano
- 1 teas. basil
- ½ teas. salt
- ¼ teas. granulated garlic (omit if you dislike a strong garlic taste)
- Dice first 4 veggies and saute with olive oil for 5 minutes.
- Add flour and stir until well mixed.
- Pour in tomato sauce and diced tomato.
- Add sugar and seasonings.
- Simmer for 20 minutes stirring occasionally.
- Optional: If you dislike chunky, place sauteed veggies in chopper before adding tomato sauce.
Now for the giveaway I promised. You may have noticed it in the photos above. The green strainer with my cooked spaghetti in it. Yeah, yeah, I know you are wondering what’s so special about that strainer. 🙂
Okay, wait for it, wait for it…. It collapses! Yes, you have the full size function of a strainer with the space saving ability to collapse! I have a large bulky strainer that is pretty and matches my dishes. To use it, I much pull two other bulky bowls out at the same time while trying not to break anything. It worked, but it was inconvenient.
The space saver strainer pops open for use, then smashes flat for storage. Look! I can hang it right inside my cupboard door, virtually wasted space until now.
You should totally enter to win below. But if you don’t win, I have a deal to share with you. The strainer retails for $14.77 on Amazon, but you can purchase it on the MagicMil site for $13.77!
Just a few specs before you enter.
Yum that so good! Honestly I can taste and smell that pasta and sauce right through my laptop! Thank you for posting this recipe and I plan on making it for my family. Anyway, I would love that strainer and it is something I could definitely use.
Have a great day!
I’m sure your family will love it! And if you entered the giveaway, well, good luck! 🙂
Such a smartly designed strainer! Love it!
Your chunky sauce looks amazing. I used to make my own sauce, but have gotten so busy that I’ve been cheating and using premade. I should get back to making it from scratch and make it chunky like yours.
This looks like a wonderful meal option.
Thank you for sharing this with us on the #HomeMattersParty. We hope to see you next Friday when we open the doors again at 12 AM EST.
Wow that looks delicious! I have never made my own pasta sauce, but it would be great to use all my favorite things in one. Stopping by from the #HomeMattersParty
Like you, I must of have been Italian in another life too. Pasta with a tomato sauce is my comfort food. I will give your recipe a try this week.
oh my goodness this looks DIVINE! i am literally drooling over here, great recipe 🙂 xo
I haven’t made my own pasta sauce in years but this recipe make me rethink my next spaghetti night. Thanks for sharing at #HomeMattersParty
Your homemade sauce looks a lot like my homemade sauce, except I also add eggplant and zucchini. I love the meaty texture they add which makes it a great dish for Meatless Monday. Thanks for posting on Project Inspired.
