Our essential oils gal Kate, is here again and she’s sharing a bit of a personal story about emotional wellness and why she is so thankful for essential oils.
Emotional Wellness and Essential Oils:
November is a month of Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, this important holiday gets lost more and more each year. Retailers begin their Christmas sales before October is even over! So we need to refocus this month and take the time to count our blessings.
Kendra has asked me to contribute to the Gratitude series of posts she is doing this month and I am more than happy to do so. So far, November has been an incredible time of blessings for me and my family. My story of gratitude starts this past Sunday, when my best friend and love of my life asked me to be his wife. I am so blessed by him and his two sons. I am thankful every day that we are and will be a family.
Finding Emotional Balance with Essential Oils
My story today will be about essential oils – of course, that’s my thing! I love them so much and it is hard for me to pick just one story or one oil that I am truly grateful for. But I managed to narrow it down to two blends that have changed my life – and will get me through the stress of my upcoming wedding!
A calming and balancing blend whose names I may not mention thanks to FDA compliance stuff. If you want to know what they are really called, you can ask in a comment and Kendra will give you the info!
For years, I have struggled with anxiety and depression (read more of my story here). When I was a teenager, I experienced the loss of my grandmother and it changed my life at a time when I was already growing, learning and getting easily confused by life. On and off since that time, I have fallen into deep depressions and have experienced severe anxiety.
My struggles came to a head a few years ago when I hit what I considered to be my rock bottom. I was in a daze and an emotional fog for many months. Eventually I pulled myself out, with the help of a fantastic therapist and the unending support of my family and loved ones, especially my soon-to-be husband.
I knew that my struggle would never truly go away, but I had to find a way to cope. Medication was the answer at the time, it seemed the only way to address my “chemical imbalance” and keep my emotions in check. Fortunately, I did not have to suffer through major side effects as many people have. But I knew that I wanted an alternative – I knew that being on a medication was not what I wanted for the rest of my life.
When I was first introduced to essential oils, I was a research maniac! I looked into every oil and every possible condition they could address. After my success story with with oils for digestions (read it here), I knew the oils could help me even more. That was when I began to use a calming and balancing blend.
The Calming Blend, is formulated to ease stress, promote a restful sleep and calm nerves. It has a beautiful aroma, so I began to use it as a perfume. I also diffuse it and apply it to the bottoms of my feet at night. After a month or so I began to sleep more soundly, with less anxiety and less of that feeling of not being able to shut off.
I began combining these, blending them together at night. The Balance Blend, is also formulated to calm nerves and ease anxiety and it promotes a sense of overall well-being and groundedness. I apply Balance daily to the bottoms of my feet in the morning and as a perfume as well. When I feel particularly stressed, I apply it over my heart. I have found that this brings me an instant sense of calm and focus.
Both of these blends together help to promote emotional wellness.
I am so very grateful for these two oils. They have changed my life! I am happy to report that I have been working closely with my doctor and have successfully cut my medication dosage in half! After I get through the wedding, I am sure I can continue to ease back the dosage and use the oils exclusively.
I must put out a little disclaimer here – please note that this is MY story, my personal experience. Depression and anxiety are serious disorders and I am not by any means suggesting that essential oils are the best or only solution. I encourage you – in fact, I insist – that you talk to your doctor and do not under any circumstances, take yourself off any medications on your own. This can have an adverse effect on your treatment process. Talk with your doctor as I have about slowly changing your dosage and make sure you monitor yourself closely if you choose to do so. Use meditation, massage or yoga to help you as well. And do give the oils a try – I am happy to help you with any questions you may have. Please contact me!
Thank you Kendra for allowing me to share my story. I hope you all remember to give thanks this month and have a wonderful Thanksgiving season!
