How can failure be the key to success? How can someone become successful in whatever they do?
Well, persistence makes up a big part of that key, but I think it takes more than that.
Let me “rabbit-trail” here a bit. 🙂 I call myself a good cook. I love to mess in the kitchen, create or revamp recipes and fill my man’s belly. Okay, who am I kidding? I fill my own belly as well!
I would say I am a very successful cook; but if you follow me on Facebook, you may be shaking your head a bit.
“She calls herself a good cook? Who made this mess then, the cat?!” Haha! That mess you see below; that mess was me trying to use up a failed batch of yogurt.
Obviously yogurt wasn’t the only thing that failed that day!!! Yet, I look at that photo, laugh and still say I am a good cook. Why? Because the very next day, I tried again. I did just a few things differently and see? I am a good cook! 🙂
Persistence helped me out, but I think my previous failure was my key to success.
Reasons why Failure is the Key to Success:
- Failure is a sign that you are trying.
- Failure teaches you what NOT to do.
- Failure keeps you humble ~Pride goes before a fall. 🙂
- Failure makes you stronger.
- Failure helps you appreciate your success.
I could’ve just tossed that thick milk /runny yogurt and called it a day. But I didn’t. I could’ve given up after that first batch of failed bread. But I didn’t. I tried again, and that’s why I say I’m a good cook. (apply that your life as a wife or mom!)
Now, if failure is the key to success, then I would say persistence is the door! 🙂
Normally, I do not have total flops. So normally I put the food on the table and eat it. But after a massive flop like that one, being able to pull a success from the oven is like “shaza-am! in yo face!” 😉
So go out and fail a bit. Because who knows, your latest failure, may just become your greatest success!
My recipe for the custard was found here. And the fact that it burnt had nothing to do with the recipe! The bread is a slightly different story. I’m still working on that recipe and once I get it perfectly delicious, I will be sharing it on the blog.
*Edit a few months later: Bread recipe has been perfected and we love it! Here you go: Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread Recipe.
I needed this today. We had a failure Monday night with homemade noodles. Now we know. LOL! (I blogged about it if you want to read it. It’s “Major Noodle Disaster!”
Ha ha, failure sure can be a great teacher and helper to success. I have failed severally in my cookery to, and I have succeeded from those failures. Great post friend!
What a helpful and encouraging post, Kendra! 🙂 I’d also add that failure (sometimes) gives you a good laugh (even if it happens years later)! When Will & I first got married, I did not know how to cook anything – Will’s dinnertime mantra became “I’ll try anything you make…once!” I found 3 easy recipes that consistently came out good. I stuck to just those three for a long time…if I hadn’t gotten over my fear of flopping, we’d have missed out on many of our favorites!
How funny! Yes, sometimes flops can be cause for great laughs later!
Great post! So very true! We all have failures, but if we keep on trying, we are successful!
The title reminded me of this post I had written awhile back with a similar title, but a very different message!
