Ready for some first birthday party fun? I am now the momma of a one year old! Still a little hard to believe it’s been an entire year since little man first made his appearance.
His birthday was Monday, but the celebration was on Sunday. We weren’t going to do a party since he will never remember it anyway. However we changed our minds and decided a party was most definitely the best way to celebrate a child turning 1.
You see, a first birthday party is not for the child. It is instead a fun way for the parents to celebrate the fact that they kept a small human alive for an entire year!
So, the party was on! Just a few family members, so it was small, but still a party!
First Birthday Party Fun!
And what’s a party without a theme? I love tie dye and used blue and green to make a tablecloth, birthday bunting, and napkins. I also tie dyed a couple of blue and green shirts for the birthday boy.
Just tie dying all the decorations was a blast! But the fun didn’t stop there. Next up were the cupcakes.
We don’t particularly like yellow cake, and chocolate sounded like more of a challenge to ice. When I came across a recipe for applesauce cake I did a little happy dance!
I made 24 applesauce cupcakes and then started brainstorming the top. Awhile back I made edible food coloring to make paint with (click here for that recipe) and had some left over.
I mixed the orange coloring with sugar and made fish-shaped candy toppers. Then I used the blue coloring and sugar to make a candy that I drizzled in swirls on a silpat and broke once they cooled. However, the blue candy didn’t get hot enough, and my “water” “melted” down into the cupcakes.
To make swirled icing, I placed a drop of blue and green food coloring inside the icing bag before filling it.
What does a little boy do with a cupcake? He eats it!
Clearly, cake and ice cream with the best part of his day!
Jason and I found the perfect gift for a one year old. It’s a ride-on toy with a tall handle so we can push him around in it until he gets big enough to move it himself. It also turns into a rocking toy. Click here to see all the fun reasons we bought it.
He was pretty funny with unwrapping the rest of his birthday gifts. Poor kid was sugar-high on a cupcake and 5 bites of ice cream!
I never knew just how amazing being a mother was until I had my son. He turned my well-ordered world upside down and crazy, but I wouldn’t trade him for anything!
Happy Birthday to your little one!
The muffins look yummy, but the cutest thing in the pictures is your son for sure!:)
I’ve just made my first-ever order to Lilla Rose -through your blog. I don’t know if I should have told you previously that I was going to order…it was kind of a spur-of-the-moment decision, because of the great sales.
Anyway, I’m glad I finally ordered, and soooo happy that there is international shipping.:)
blessings,
Tiria
Hi Tiria,
The muffins were yummy, but I definitely agree that my little man “took the cake” 🙂
International shipping is always great! That’s one of the many reasons I love Lilla Rose, the sales going on right now are pretty awesome, so I’m glad you were able to get in on them!
