Ever been on social media and see these amazing places and just wish you could take your kids there?
But those places are hours or days of travel away and that’s just not in the budget. I would encourage you to look around your location and see what you can discover though. Today I’m sharing my list of Fun Places to Visit with Toddlers in Miami County Ohio.
There are so many fun places to take small children in our area. Beautiful parks for running off all that energy, walking trails and wildlife centers for discovering nature, small businesses with fun play areas for littles while you shop and more!
My boys are currently 1 and nearly 3 and below is a list of places we enjoy visiting. Keep reading for a fun giveaway for a local businesses too!!!

Fun Places to Visit with Toddlers in Miami County
- Parks
Miami county owns many beautiful parks. Several photos in this post are from a recent visit to the Treasure Island park in Troy. To see all the parks visit Miami Co Park District, or keep reading to see our favorites!
Charleston Falls is beautiful any time of year (seriously winter is amazing too), and we enjoy walking around there. Besides the Falls, we enjoy the wildlife pond, and picnicking area and the first Monday of each month is a program for moms and tots.
We also enjoy the Lost Creek Reserve and Knoop Agricultural Center for the different programs available throughout the year. Visit the park district site (linked above) to discover events coming up.
Bruckner Nature Center is another favorite. The Interpretive Building has a new wildlife art exhibit each season and also have a large variety of animals which are no longer able to survive in the wild that live there both inside and outside as well. For 3-5 year olds there is a preschool program available that runs for 6 weeks at a time and is very affordable. I’m thinking this would be lots of fun for Kolton next winter.
Carriage Hill. While I’m not entirely certain that Carriage hill is located in Miami county, I’m 100% certain that young children enjoy it! The visitor’s center includes a fun historical themed play area for kids and when I nannied we went there a lot!
- Library
Most libraries have a story time for even the very young children. Tipp City library’s programs are awesome and when I nannied we went nearly every week. Troy’s programs tend to fill up so they require registration for Fall and Winter programs but summer time is drop in.
Even when when we cannot make it to the programs we still like to visit the children’s area. The toys are different and my boys both LOVE books. Many libraries also have computers loaded with preschool and elementary level games which Kolton loves! (I know that Covington, Troy, and Tipp for sure have this)
You can view the full calendar of library events here: Troy, Tipp City.

- Shopping
Okay, so I know that doesn’t sound like the best idea when you are talking about small children. But hear me out.
Cairn’s in Tipp City is well… It’s every child’s dream toy store! Not only are the shelves PILED full of toys (not gonna lie, I nearly caused an avalanche one day!), there is an area with toys that your child can play with.
It’s such a fun little shop to pop into with the kids and end up spending way too much time there, but on the bright side you’ve found toys for everyone’s birthdays and Christmas for the next few years. Maybe that’s not a good thing? LOL!
Samozrejme in Troy is the same type of store but for moms who love all things natural and “crunchy”! Let your little tykes play in the toy area while you shop for cloth diapers, baby wearing supplies, natural baby products, wooden toys, amber necklaces and more!
Do you want to join a local mom group to discuss all the baby wearing, breastfeeding, cloth diapering things, along with learning about more local activities for toddlers? The Samozrejme group on Facebook is But of course… Love! and is the perfect place to find other moms with small tykes. 🙂
Best of all, if you are local, I am giving away a $25 gift card to Samozrejme! Giveaway is below.

We are not planning on moving in the next 5 yrs. We bought our 1st home 5yrs ago and used Tami Holmes Team and mainly looked in Montgomery County. Don’t remember if we looked in Miami County at all. Would definitely consider using them again if/when we look for a new home! This year they have sent us some goodies in the mail: little bag of popcorn a few months ago, and today I got a little tin with jelly beans 🙂
Anyway, have fun looking for your new home!
PS – love taking the kids to Carriage Hill!
How sweet of them! Tami Holmes is one of the Realtors found on HER Realty 🙂
We are not planning on buying a home in the next five years and have never searched for a home anywhere, we built our home on family-owned land!
Thank you for supporting Miami County Parks, I worked in the education department for years & they are wonderful places year round to take your family.
We would love to buy a house within 5 years, but we haven’t found what we want yet. So we are just trying to be patient for now. And honestly I don’t know if we have looked there or not! My husband does the looking and lets me know if he thinks there is one that would work! 🙂
That sounds like us! Jason does much of the looking. We won’t be able to move for another 4-5 years so I just don’t worry much about it, but Jason sure likes to look around!
Never been to that store, but sounds fun. We like Veaches in Richmond… They have lots of toys out to play with and a huge selection of imaginative toys!
Grandma has talked about Veaches too, but I’ve never been there. Samozrejme is definitely fun!
We just bought a home outside of Fairborn ( just east of Dayton). We did look all over the area at Real Estate though. We have been here 2 months now and are still learning our way around. Your tips on what to do and see are greatly helpful. Sure wish I had known about Samozejme when I was in Troy a few weeks ago for a homeschool curriculum sale. Can’t wait to check it out.
Fairborn is a great area too! Nice and close to many fun parks and such for kids 🙂
We just bought a home in Piqua a few months ago (moved back from Columbus) and don’t plan on looking for years. I actually met an amazing friend through the group! And Alison is a solitary amazing and helpful at the store!
We are hoping to move in the next 5 years or so. We are pretty loyal to our realtor but I have looked at listings on the HER realtor site.
We are looking to sell/ buy a new home in the next five years. We have not used that to look. We would love to win a gift card to that store it’s our favorite!
It’s a fun store for sure!
We aren’t planning to buy a home in the next five years. When we were looking for our current house we did not search on the HER website. Our search didn’t last long, though, as we decided to build.
That’s awesome!!! We would love to build in the distant future 🙂
We are not planning to buy in the next five years we live in tipp city and bought a foreclosure that we have fixed up! We love all of the above we haven’t tried the nature center yet but will need to check it out!
We’ve considered buying a foreclosure when we need to move but it would take us so long to get things fixed up that I’m not so sure about the idea lol
We are hopefully going to be looking for a house within the next year! My husband is always searching and he is on the HER Site often!
Sounds like my husband. We aren’t buying for a few more years yet but he is always looking! Good luck on your house hunt 🙂
Love this post. Not looking for a home in Miami, we are very happy in Shelby. Have not used realtors or used their site in the past but have looked at their realtor.com homes. These are great places and hope to visit the ones that I have not yet seen.
I used to work in Shelby Co.! 🙂
We are planning to move to Pleasant Hill as soon as we can sell our homr in Troy. We have not used Herr to look for homes as we plan to buy a family members home. But looking for a good realtor to sell ours.
I am not looking to buy a home in the next five years and I haven’t heard of the HER site, but I’ll check it out now! And I LOVE Samozrejme–I go to a music class there with my daughter every Saturday and usually end up buying some goodies for friends, hahaha.
I would love to take my boys to the music classes but Saturdays are no good for us. We need morning activities.
We just moved to Germantown a few months ago but we did look in Troy as my family lives there. We don’t PLAN to move again in the next five years (or ever), but plans change 🙂
Thanks for all your suggestions!
We aren’t planning to buy a house in the next 5 years but who know with job changes. We bought our first home just over a year ago in Fairborn and are really happy with our location. Very close to the shopping in beavercreek but close to the large park in Fairborn. We’ve lived in the area for about 4 years and are always looking for things to do with our almost 6 year old twins and 3 year old. I will have to check out some of the stores you mentioned because we are on the “crunchy” side.
You would definitely enjoy Samozrejme then. But even Cairn’s toys is a fun store to visit just for all the toys 🙂
I think there are a few spray parks near you as well if you’ve never tried them. My friend and I take our kids together, hers is 6 and he still loves it!
We won’t be buying in the next 5 yrs (we just bought) but we looked at a TON of houses online and checked HER often.
We are pretty happy with our home and don’t plan on moving anywhere for years! Haven’t ever been on the HER Realty site either.
Love Samozrejme though and love the amber necklace I purchased there.
Great little tips, thanks! Great family outing ideas. I’m enjoying different parts to Ohio while I’m in the city. Hopefully I can get a bit used to the vicinities around and write up a great guest post for your lively little blog too someday! Ha ha. Thanks for the article, once again. Best.
