If you have been eyeing the burlap placemats and table runner from Mary and Martha; but holding back because you knew your family would destry them in one meal. Well, you are not alone!
Jane also wanted to use the burlap placemats but knew they wouldn’t last long with her littles. So she came up with a great way to make them last longer!
How to Make Burlap Placemats Last Longer
The last couple of months I’ve been wanting the hottest trend in Home Decor which is Burlap! Burlap is both natural and rustic. No matter what your specific decor is in your home, it can be enhanced in some way with burlap! To me, burlap leaves the home feeling cozy and content.
I wanted to protect these treasures with something that will make them last longer! I didn’t want the orange juice and coffee soaking into these beauties, which would be after the first meal would it not? I decided to spray my burlap runners first to preserve them.
I chose Krylon Acrylic Clear Spray and sprayed them on all sides about three times. It did leave them a bit stiffer but still flexible and I have not doubt that they will last me a long time!
This is a brilliant idea! I would love for you to share your creativity at my Show-Licious Craft & Recipe Party! The party is live now and starts each Saturday morning at 8:00 am EST.

What a great idea! I love burlap. Even though I don’t have little ones, my big ones make a mess so this would work perfectly. Thanks for linking this to the In and Out of the Kitchen Link Party.
Brilliant idea to spray the clear on burlap. That’s only thing about burlap, can’t be washed but using the clear spray will protect it. I’ll be sure to remember that, awesome idea. I make burlap items alot so this will help when somebody buys an item I can tell them what I did. I make pillow covers, table runners and curtains with burlap besides using it in frames for mat. I have table runner on a stand in our bathroom so when I clean bathroom I put it in dryer with dryer sheet to freshen it for just 5 minutes maybe. Our house gets very dusty all the time. I’d be one to spill if we had place mats.
Where did you find the burlap with all the sayings on it? Love look of it. I’ve seen some great printed burlaps at Jo-Ann’s. Bit more expensive but I’d use a 40% off coupon. Most of printed burlaps are at least $9.99.
The burlap placemats actually came from a child company of Dayspring. The company is called Mary and Martha. In fact, the above post was written by our Mary and Martha Consultant Jane. 🙂 You can check out her website through the links in her post.
What a great idea, Kendra! Pinned and thank you for sharing at the Show Stopper party this week!
This is a great tip and one that I really needed thank you!
I love using clear acrylic spray to protect things. Great idea to use them on burlap to help keep them clean. Thanks for sharing on Merry Monday.
So smart! Love this, great post!
I use “Scotch Guard” it provides water resistance, dust and bug resistance. It will eventually wash out. It does not leave your fabric stiff like Acrylic spray does.
