I was only 5 and begging to go to school, So 3 days before I turned 6 I started first grade at our private school. I loved school and learning and in first grade I won 2nd place in a reading contest. But somewhere along the line I decided I hated math.
By the time I was in 4th grade, I would’ve told any one that asked; “science and reading is my favorite subject, but I hate math!” In my 5th year, mom started homeschooling my brother and I. She bought curriculum just like what we used at school and she set school hours for us. In fact, our home-school those first few years, was very much like school itself. And still, I hated math.
Join me at Something to Offer where I am sharing how I learned love math and how I feel homeschooling has affected who I am.

Ugh I was so terrible at math in school. I didn’t start really understanding it until I worked at a bank! Gotta know numbers there! LOL
That is what school is all about. Learning how to learn. Your sis did a great job of that early on. She could not read, didn’t know the days of the week in order and especially did not know cursive. When the opportunity arose to fold the dish towels with the days of the week in cursive, can you believe that she not only folded them nicely, but got them in order! There was a calendar close by and she looked at that and somehow just figured out the cursive. Smart cookie, she is! Like her big sis.
