I’ve reached day 11 and at this point in the original reboot plan I should be slowly headed back to whole foods and not juice. However, I think I will keep on juicing a little bit longer. I’ve discovered a few juicing survival tips, and I still want to lose a few more pounds.
So, I plan to continue juicing until I have lost at least 20 pounds. Since nearly 5 pounds will come back, once I completely start eating normal again, I need to lose enough to keep me at a decent weight once those five pounds come back.
Living on just juice has been a challenge. I’ve really hated the taste of some juices, (did you know, just because you like the veggie, it doesn’t mean you will like the juice) and I badly want something to chew at times. So today, I thought I would share a few of my juicing survival tips.
Juicing Survival Tips:
1. It’s a mind set. At first it was horrible. I wanted my normal foods so badly. But I stayed strong and kept saying no to what my brain wanted. My stomach nearly always has food juice and water in it, so I’m not really hungry-hungry, as much as I am brain hungry. So what has helped the most, is training my brain to realize I don’t need to eat. And it’s very empowering to realize I can see and smell my favorite foods, and be able to say no and just enjoy the smell and not eat.
2. Coconut water. Coconut water is high in electrolytes and does a lot to help with the lethargy I felt at first. It’s also very easy. I can buy the carton and pour myself a cup, no juicing required.
3. Which leads me to my next tip. NuNaturals Stevia. (Read more about that here.) The coconut water by itself is rather blah. I added a bit of the lemon NuNaturals and it made a world of difference! I have added it to my teas, and juices and even water. I love water, but slurping down 3 quart of water daily gets old.
4. Gelatin! If you don’t like jello then this wouldn’t be for you. But if you do like jello, then try making real juice jello to chew on. I boiled just enough water to dissolve 3 packets of gelatin in and then mixed it with 3 cups of juice. It set up and now I have something to chew. Much better than ice. π
5. Smoothies! A major complaint among juicers is constipation. I did a colon cleanse right before starting this (check out the “had your veggies yet” ad on the right sidebar to see what I used) and so I did start out on the right foot. But every other morning I make a smoothie rather than a juice for breakfast and that’s just enough fiber to ensure that all systems are “go”. lol
Do you have any other juicing survival tips for me? I really could use them! And don’t forget to check back on Saturday for my next weigh-in. I did step on the scales this morn and it made me smile, but I’ll just be sharing that part of the progress once a week.
Want to know what kind of juicer I am using? You can (ad) find it on Amazon.

Good JOB!! You are right, it IS a mindset! It is actually easier for me to say no to food altogether than have to “decide” when to stop. :/ DO you find that you feel better physically now that you are past the first few hard days? I had more energy with all of those veggies!
The juice diet overall is definitely not for me – but I’m intrigued by the real juice jello…how do you feel it compares to traditional jello taste and texture-wise?
I like it. Mom used to buy juicy-juice 100% juice and make jello with it. The only difference is, it tastes real and isn’t as sweet as regular jello.
Just use the plain gelatin and use juice instead of water. It was a wonderful treat for us kids growing up. And my mom was happy too because both the
juice and gelatin are good for you. π
tips if you haven’t heard, my friends did this in obedience to God to be in control of their bodies a life style change of sorts. They went a whole month with just juicing and then went back to eating solids and some meats/or cravings here in there; as she put it is that she’s a southern girl and its hard to take Southern food out of a Southern girl. But her first mistake was sitting down to a love piece of red meat -cooked of course. But she said starting out with fish and chicken in bits w/ your greens will allow your body to slowly take back in these foods. Be blessed in your adventure and way to go on making it to day 11!

My husband and I did a 40 days liquid fast through Dec and part of Jan. we found that tomato juice gave us the most energy..and if we wanted to kick it up we added a dash of worchestershire sauce…or garlic…or both. π Towards the end of the fast we thickened it a bit with corn starch to get our systems ready for solids. Neither of us had any problem with our tummies . π
Hmm, I need to try tomato again. I tried it once or twice, but both times there was onion and garlic in the juice too. And something (I suspect onion or garlic) made me nauseous. Which is weird because I love it all in other forms. But making a thick juice towards the end would be a great way to start training you belly for food again!
Onion was a no no for us too..we tried onion powder in the juice and BLECK! That was why I didn’t mention it. π
You are doing well! I know on this diet you have had days (in the beginning) where you ate whole foods only , and then you mentioned you went on just juice for a few days. When you were doing the part where you could have whole foods with it, did you only eat raw? Or did you also eat things cooked or steamed. P.S. – don’t forget Fiberwise if things need to get going smoothly haha π
I don’t know if I could handle juicing! It sounds very alien to me. I know a few friends have juiced and love doing it.. we will see
I totally agree with you on the whole mindset thing…I like food too much. {brain food!} Since buying the juicer last week though…WOW! I’ve been adding juice to everything! Smoothies, stews/soups, muffins. My children get a kick out of helping me with it too!
You are doing great on your juicing fast! Maybe one day I will try the 15 {or more!} day juice fast! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! And how fun is that adding juice to everything? π So glad the kids like it too.
I wish I could be more helpful, but this is one thing I do know. I was told many years ago that when juicing to be careful what you juice in the evenings/afternoons, because some fruits and veggies are not only high in sugar but also in vitamins that tend to keep you up. And it can make it hard to sleep. I wish I could remember which fruits/veggies you’re supposed to avoid late in the day. π Sorry! Good luck with the rest of your juicing. π
Oh yea, forgot one other thing. Do you ever make homemade popsicles? Making them with the juice from different fruits/veggies can be really fun, and yummy!
Oh my goodness! I haven’t done that. Right now, I’m wanting warm not cold, but I do plan on doing a 10 day re-boot in the summer and that would be great for then. Thanks for the idea. π
Way to go!! In the last few years I have missed my will power to really make a change. Used to be to be so easy to set a goal and follow through. You are doing great and love the tips! I may try to juice fast again. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Hey There!!
Just wanted to share a recipe if you are wanting something warm and tasty!!
Tomato Soup Juice
4 tomatoes
1 orange pepper
1 carrot
1 zucchini
Handful of fresh herbs ( parsley/ basil/ oregano)
Salt and pepper to taste and some olive oil if desired
If you like a bit of kick, I added 1/2 jalapeΓ±o pepper, some cilantro, and 1/4 onion.
Love all these flavours!! They are amazing and warms you up!!
Enjoy!
Wow! that sounds yummy! I ran out of tomatoes last night so I used tomato sauce that I canned last summer. π
I will definitely have to try that, I’m having problems staying warm lol
I hear ya! I am always cold now, and its everything I can do to stay warm. It is a common thing I have found among juicers, as your digestive system is essentially asleep and therefore your internal furnace is basically shut off. I just try to bundle up and have a heater on if I can, and drink hot peppermint tea or warm “soup” juices.
Keep up the great work! and stay warm π
I know, I keep the heater straight on me as much as I can π
