Ah… Those with siblings, know best what it’s like growing up with another person around; leeching on mom and dad’s time and money right along with you!
Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.
Siblings:
I grew up with 5 other little persons. Two of those were enough younger than I that they were more “my babies” than my siblings. However, the two oldest boys, and my sister were certainly growing up at the same time as I.
Only siblings could fight the way we did. Only siblings could get into trouble the way we did. And only siblings could know each other, and love each other as well as we did.
Having brothers and sisters while one is growing up, is probably the best way for a child to learn the basics of life. Teamwork, sharing, taking turns, and learning at an early age that the world in fact, does NOT revolve around you. 🙂
We were bosom friends and bitterest enemies. Together we created memories that colored our childhood.
Even though half of us have grown up and moved out, and someday the others will as well; our familial ties bind us together and bring us back together as life and time permits. While we are no longer as close as we were as children, in some ways we are closer. Our history together gives us insight into each others lives and keeps us together.
There was a time when the older brothers and I were estranged. We allowed choices and circumstances to separate us. Fortunately, we made choices to bring us back into each others lives.
Whether you have a dozen siblings or just one, siblings are a true blessing. If you are blessed with a sibling or siblings, may I encourage you to make choices that keep them in your life. Even if you do not always approve of your sibling’s life-choices, please choose to keep them in your life and love them as always.
If you have siblings, how many do you have and what are you thankful for in them?
