Look Into Their Eyes – Plus Living Proverbs 31 Linkup

Look into their eyes. Looking into your child's eyes helps build a connection between parent and child and encourages healthy communication.

As a mom I have a bad habit. When I’m scolding a child, or upset with the boys, I tend to look over their heads, or even have my eyes nearly shut as I scold/complain/give a command etc. But what I really need to do is look into their eyes. When you don’t look into a their eyes, a disconnect is happening. You can yell, scold, complain, whatever and you have no idea how it makes your child feel. Your child […]

Pour out blessings on others and you will be the one blessed!

Who are you at home? Who are you in public? Are you one person one place and a different person elsewhere? I know my family definitely sees the real me while others may see a “nicer” side of me. Most of all though I want to be a blessing. I can be a daughter, wife mom, friend neighbor, whoever, but it is important to me that I be a blessing. Lately I’ve been thinking and praying a lot about being […]

I have always had someone on my side and you do too!

In light of the tragedy in Baltimore, a few photos began circulating the internet. While the news is showing us the horrible, scary side of these riots, a few people were posting photos that shared hope. One photo in particular, stood out. In fact, it stood out so much that it went viral within just a few hours. It was so perfect, this beautiful, positive photo that shone brighter than all the negative news of that day. I shared it […]

Caring for Our Own, or Others?

December 9, 2014 by Kendra 4 Comments

Are we caring for our own, or ignoring them while we "do some noble deed" to care for those far away?

The church fellowship that I grew up with didn’t support missions. They did support the idea of caring for our own in our church, but if a member wished to become a missionary, there was no support for them from the church. As a young teen I felt God calling me to be a missionary. I didn’t know where to go with it though and due to the fellowship we were a part of at the time, my parents were […]

With 1% of the U.S. homeless each year, I am very thankful to have a home. 30 days day 26.

I am thankful. Thankful to have a safe dwelling place, and the people that make it home. Psalms 90:1-2 Lord thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou are God. According to a study found on national homeless .org, 1 in a 100 people will experience homelessness each year in the U.S.. Approximately 39% of that number […]

The bounty of fall, ~30 day of thanksgiving

Fall, is a time for harvest. Genesis 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. Personally, I love fall. After the intense heat of summer, it’s such a wonderful relief to begin experiencing cooler weather again. On a fall morning, one may wake up to a light frost on the ground, the sun still shines warmly, but the air is cool. You walk outside and […]

November 1, 2014 by Kendra Leave a Comment

November 28 is the day our nation recognizes as a day of thanksgiving. In a land so richly blessed as America, 1 day out of 365 seems rather insignificant. However, we can make everyday a day of thanksgiving, no matter the circumstances. 30 Days of Thanksgiving: This month we are going to go through 30 days of thanksgiving.  We will be focusing on one blessing a day. Some will be pretty easy such as homes, family, and food; while others […]

Rejoice with Those that Rejoice ~The Problem with Social Media

September 26, 2014 by Kendra 2 Comments

Social media can feel like a competition, or a time suck, and there are a dozen good reasons to take a break from it or leave it all together. However, there is one common reason that I feel is a terrible reason. It goes something like this:  “I get on Facebook and see status updates on how well so-and-so’s kids are doing, photos of delicious food that some susie-homemaker made, and a picture of the bouquet a friend’s husband sent […]

How to find my identity. Finding an identity that will last forever

How does one find their identity? Is it in the family they were born into, the career they have chosen, their spouse, their church? Do you feel like you don’t have a personal identity and wonder how to find it? Maybe you have even Googled “How to find my identity”. Here’s the thing: If you are looking to identify with someone or something, then you are completely normal. You were created to identify with your creator. Created to seek out […]

What does becoming a submissive wife mean? Not a doormat, but someone who...

One thing I have been trying to work on lately is becoming a submissive wife. Not a door mat, or someone who just agrees with everything he says, but submissive. Becoming a Submissive Wife: Trust me, I am anything but a doormat. If I disagree with something or someone it is likely that I will walk away or state that we will have to “agree to disagree” because that isn’t my viewpoint at all.  In cases where I hold in […]

Simple and Cheap Gift Wrap

Simple and cheap gift wrap is surprisingly easy. Besides, who would believe I got half the supplies for free?!?!

Today I wanted to show you my simple and cheap gift wrap. We have used the funnies from the Sunday comics to wrap birthday presents for years. But the comics aren’t exactly classy enough for some occasions. Sometime last year I came upon a great idea for baby shower gifts and for weddings too. It was as simple as tissue paper and ribbons. Because I’m a (sometimes) crafter, ribbons are found in plenty around our house.  As well, I buy […]

Her children rise up and call her blessed. A look at the "mother" in proverbs 31.

As many of you may know from a prior post, a group of Christian ladies and I created an e-book study guide for Proverbs 31. I wanted to give you an idea of the book, by sharing one of the devotions today. This devotion; Her Children Call Her Blessed was written for the woman who feels like no one appreciates what she does. Her Children Call Her Blessed: Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also praises her. […]

Setting up a baby nursery in grey and yellow, with a birds and branches theme

I’ve been promising baby room pictures for over a month now. Yes, I know, I’m slow here. 😉 But it’s finally looking like something and I’m excited to share how we’re setting up a baby nursery with yellow and grey! I painted the walls of that little room a cheery yellow over 5 years ago and it was wonderful for a playroom. Especially with some Winnie the Pooh pictures. But I was sick of Winnie the Pooh and wanted something […]

A treasure of the Heart.

Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  Where would you find a treasure of the heart? I read a story once, of a rich man whom everybody knew to be very charitable. His name was on plaques all over the city recognizing him as founder or supporter. He was very well known and every one knew of his good deeds. This man had a friend who was a doctor. This friend of his was also very charitable […]

If somethng can go wrong, it surely will! Lessons in patience

I think the Lord has been giving me lessons in patience lately. And no, I didn’t pray for patience! Anyone who knows me, will be able to tell you that I am not patient by nature. I want things done and I want them done yesterday. Living in even a small remodel project puts me on edge and even over the edge at times….
