The Importance of What your Child Reads

The importance of what your child reads and how to easily find safe books for them.

As a parent, I’m sure you realize the importance of what your child reads. As a child, my mother was very careful about our reading material. While I didn’t appreciate it at the time, I am thankful now. What a child, reads and perceives is vital to the molding and forming of his character. A wise parent will censor their child’s reading material, but sometimes it’s hard. A distant cousin of mine, a young lady with a similar upbringing as […]

Kids are sponges, soaking up every bit of information you feed them. How do you inspire an early love of learning so they continue to be sponges and continue to soak in information? While a bit challenging, I have always considered the toddler stage my favorite. They are learning something new everyday. Whether it is new words, new likes, new dislikes, or new places, toddlers are on-the-go seeking adventure. How do you integrate so deeply into them a love of learning […]

Summer has arrived!!! That means camping, swimming, baseball, riding, skating and so much more. But even kids can get tired of all the action and when that happens you want to be prepared. If you’ve been around here long at all, you know how much I love books and have probably even read some of my favorites. Today I’ve put together yet another reading list! Geared towards preteens, these books contain great stories with lots of action and adventure. I’ve […]

Food for Thought ~ Reading List

April 1, 2015 by Kendra 4 Comments

Food for thought. The books I've been reading lately on faith, family and blogging :)

I’m a firm believer in the fact that what goes in, also comes out. I feel like what we read and watch affects our entire mindset and world-view. My mother worked hard to provide me with good wholesome books that were age appropriate for me. They went a long ways towards shaping me into the woman I now am.I As a young adult, I had far more freedom in choosing the books I read, and sad to say I didn’t […]

How to send pdf and mobi files to your kindle device. If you ever purchased an e-book this is a great way to read it somewhere besides your computer!

I love the abundance of information that is found via e-books today. I had a huge library on my computer that sadly got deleted by mistake. I’ve since learned my lesson and promptly backup my e-book files after purchasing them. I’ve also learned how to read them on my Kindle device. Today I’m sharing how to send PDF and .mobi files to your kindle. .mobi files are documents formatted for the Kindle version of e-readers. The only thing you need […]

Good Teen Books for Christian Girls and Boys

After my posts on Good Girl Books and Good Boy Books, I had a couple requests for Good Teen Books. I have to admit, getting together a list of good teen books wasn’t easy. A. it’s been some time since I was a teenage girl, and B. I have never been a teenage boy! 😛 But after careful consideration, a good study of my bookcase, and remembering books my mom bought for my brothers; as well as generally recognizing some […]

There is a great list of best books for boys found here. Maybe some christmas #giftideas! http://aproverbs31wife.com/best-books-for-boys/

With the help of my 11-year-old bother, I have a list of best books for boys.  After I wrote my post on good books for girls, I had requests for good boy books as well. I had to enlist my brother’s help on this one. He will be 12 this year and is a reader like his big sis. I kid you not, last year at Christmas we were discussing subjects like how Luther Burbank got several types of […]

Books That Inspire Virtue in Girls

August 1, 2013 by Kendra 21 Comments

Books that inspire virtue in girls. A great list along with breife reviews on many of the books.

Recently I have been putting together a list of books that inspire virtue in girls.  Now I may not have daughters of my own yet, but I feel highly qualified to put together this list. 🙂 As a homeschool mom, my mother realized that books would be the best way to teach us. She saved each year so that when the homeschool convention came to town she could take advantage of the book sales and buy new reading material. One […]

Learn to Forgive Yourself e-book by Leslie Monroe

Have you have you ever realized that you can forgive others easily, but you had to learn to forgive yourself? One of the things that I love about blogging, is how many wonderful and talented Christian women I have met. One of those women would be Leslie from Be Simply Better. A couple of weeks ago, she made the exciting announcement that her 3rd book was finished and she would be launching it soon.  She asked if there were any […]

casa de naomi

Some time last year I had the privilege of “meeting” a wonderful author (Paula) and reviewing her book Casa de Naomi. You can read that review here. So, imagine how thrilled I was when she contacted me a month ago and asked if I would be willing to review a second book in the Casa de Naomi series! In the last book, Naomi has kept hidden her true heritage. She is a Jew, and because of persecution in Spain (Spanish […]

Catching Raindrops, by Crystal Hoblit

A Review of Catching Raindrops. Before I start telling you about the book, I would like to introduce you to the author! Her name is Crystal and she is my cousin! So yes, I am going to brag a little. 🙂 I remember being young preteens and Crystal, her younger sis Kaylee and I would hang out every chance we got.  One thing we did was write. Raider's Vendetta by Karen Arnpriester

A review of Karen Arnpriester’s book, Raider’s Vendetta. Just another ordinary day, can quickly turn into a nightmare. When 50 year old Charlie is required to go into the bank instead of using the ATM like she normally would, her entire world changes. A bank robbery goes bad and Charlie finds herself a hostage. The “still small voice” is her guide, and even when she could have been released from hostage, she stays, sending another in her place. Why was […]

how I learned history

If you know me at all, you may know that I was home-schooled. Maybe you even remember this post. 🙂 What you may not know, is how I learned history.  I wasn’t given a textbook with dry boring content. In fact I don’t think we had a history text book in the house.  What I was given were books. Lots and lots and lots of books. And I loved love to read! What were the books about? Well, interestingly enough, […]

A little known fact about me, is that I love old things. Really old things, not just second hand things like what most of my house is. I’m talking at least a 100 years or more.  Old books also happen to be something I enjoy. Oh, who I am kidding? I just love books! Having (hopefully) made clear my love of old things. I have something rather exciting to share with you! Megan, From Shaping up to be a Mom, […]
