Toddlers don't need as much stuff as babies when you are out, but they do need some stuff and I'm good at forgetting. I just stocked my diaper bag with the bare necessities. Click for your list of toddler essentials for on-the-go

Are you on-the-go with a toddler? Even though I’m now a stay at home mom, it still seems like we are always going somewhere.

Unlike my working days where I had a huge bag with 8+ hours worth of supplies for my little one, I’m not very prepared at all anymore. Really, a toddler doesn’t need much, but it stands to reason that there are a few things one should keep in the diaper bag for a toddler.

I don’t know how many times we are out and I realized he needs something that I don’t have… Oops. Mamma fail right there. 😛

  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Powder
  • 1 outfit
  • Sippy cup
  • Snack
  • Small toy or book

I am “that mom” too many times as I give my toddler my phone to keep him busy. Considering he’s still at that age where a book holds tons of fascination, I just need to keep one in my bag so I’m not left with technology as my only resort.

And really? What kind of mom leaves for a few hours with their toddler and forgets the sippy cup? That would be me. I never packed bottles because I was the bottle and if he got hungry/thirsty we were all set. This needing a cup thing is new to me. 🙂

Snacks are optional of course, but I’ve discovered that they also work great for keeping a toddler occupied while we are waiting for (insert one of the 100’s of things we have to wait for at times).

I try really hard to live chemical free, both in what we eat and what we wear. Obviously cloth diapers are the best, but forget that jazz when you are on the go! You can learn more about the bleach and dye free diapers I buy here.

Wipes. I don’t care who you are, you probably use wipes. Especially if you are a mom, but even if you are not. 🙂

Moms on the go with toddlers probably use wipes more than anyone else.

Because we were so busy trying to get out of the house we didn’t notice that messy face until it’s too late to grab a washcloth.

No matter, wipes for the win!

Or when you realize their snack make a mess, or the cart should probably be wiped off before little hands pick up all those lovely cold and flu germs and place them in their mouths…

Yeah, we moms use wipes a lot.

Problem is, most wipes contain chemicals of some kind or another, along with preservatives to make the wipes last longer.

Now you’re in a quandary. Chemicals from wipes or possible unknown germs… For that reason I’ve always bought the purest wipes I could find for on-the-go and used mostly cloth at home.

Meijer is my grocery store of choice, but they carry more than groceries. I was poking through the baby stuff one day when I saw this on the shelves.

WaterWipes? What in the world? Intrigued I picked up a package and started reading. 99.9% water, and what was the last .1%? Grapefruit seed extract. That was it! Completely Chemical Free wipes!

No preservatives? Nothing to “make the package last longer”? Nope. Just water and grapefruit seed extract.

Did that mean WaterWipes will go bad? Nope. They say that an unopened package of WaterWipes will last 15 months unopened, and they recommend using them within 30 days of opening.

Haha! As if a package of wipes would last more than 30 days anyway!!!

So I bought some and brought them home.

After using a few WaterWipes I think that chemical wipes are just a big scam. With only 2 ingredients, these wipes are just as soft and gentle as any other wipe “gentle” wipe.

They have a nice thick feel and texture and do a great job of cleaning. I’ve noticed many of the bargain brand wipes feel really thin and I will use two at a time to avoid nasties coming through, but these are thick enough that I only need one WaterWipe to do the job of 2-4 bargain brand wipes.

The wipes are not interfolded like most. Instead the single fold enables you to pull just one wipe at a time, keeping the others sterile until you are ready for them.

Ultimately I love these wipes and I’m really glad to have a completely natural chemical free wipe for those times when cloth just isn’t an option. 🙂

I just bring wipes and a diaper or two. I bring books if we are going to be waiting in the car for awhile. If we will be gone over meal time I bring a drink and snacks. I rarely bring extra clothes and that has only bit me in the butt a few times LOL

Even when he was a bottle fed baby I rarely brought much, but he was on a schedule so I knew if we would be gone long enough to need a bottle. I only bring what I know I will need, because carrying a giant diaper bag is irritating. I like to just stick a diaper and a few wipes in my purse.

I don’t really like giant bags either, although I’ve always carried a larger purse. Now I have a smaller purse that fits in my diaper bag. I bring the entire bag, but for grocery shopping the bag says in my car and the purse comes with me. That way I have the stuff if needed, but I’m not carrying it everywhere. 🙂
