I’m a cook/bake from scratch kind of gal. Mixes are quick and convenient, but most of them taste like they came from a box too. Since we love muffins, I set out to make a Whole Wheat Muffin Mix recipe. My muffin mix can be made up as plain muffins, or you can choose from several different add-ins.

A whole wheat muffin mix recipe that is delicious and can be made different ways.

Yummy! Right?

Whole Wheat Muffin Mix Recipe

  • 8 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 cups raw cane sugar
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinamon
  • 1 tablespoon nutmeg

Pour all ingredients into a large bowl and stir until everything is completely mixed together.

Mix dry ingredients together

Pour all ingredients into a large bowl and stir until everything is completely mixed together.

On a gallon Ziploc bag, or container similar in size, write the following:

  • 2 3/4 cup + 1 1/3 tablespoon muffin mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or coconut oil
  • Bake at 400 for 18-20 min
  • Makes 1 dozen

Make your own muffin mix

Place your muffin mix into the bag or container and store in the freezer.

This whole wheat muffin mix recipe will make 4 batches of muffins. If you are a fan of bulk baking, or making ahead, try doubling or tripling the recipe that I gave you. Either way, this makes it really simple to whip up a batch of homemade muffins in no time at all.

This is a great starter mix as well. The list below are different things you can add in to make different kinds of muffins. If you add in stuff to your muffins, you can expect to get 14-15 muffins instead of just 12.

  • Banana muffins: 1 cup mashed bananas
  • Blueberry muffins: 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • Mocha muffins: 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips 1 tsp instant coffee
  • Apple Cheddar muffins: 1/2 cup shredded apple, 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Carrot muffins: 3/4 cup shredded carrots, 1/2 cup raisins

I just came across your site, and I’m glad I did very inspiring, now to find time going through your old posts. We just had our 3rd daughter on June 15, 2014, so this muffin mix will be a great time saver for me.

For some reason I just noticed something that I had missed the first time I read your comment. My son and your daughter share birthdays! 🙂

What a great idea to put the muffin mix in the freeze and then you can just add to it. Love this idea! Pinning! Thanks for sharing at Merry Monday. Hope to see you next week at the party!
